About Arslanbob

Arslanbob is a mountain village at 1,600 m in the western Tian Shan, surrounded by the largest natural walnut forest on Earth — 600,000 hectares of ancient trees that scientists believe are the genetic origin of all cultivated walnuts worldwide. In autumn, the entire village turns into a harvest festival as families gather walnuts by the ton.

Beyond the forest, Arslanbob offers two spectacular waterfalls (the "Big" and "Small" falls), horseback treks into alpine meadows, and one of Kyrgyzstan's most welcoming CBT (Community-Based Tourism) networks. Homestays here are among the country's best — warm Uzbek-Kyrgyz hospitality, home-cooked plov, and genuine cultural exchange.

The village is predominantly Uzbek-speaking, giving it a distinctly different cultural flavor from the Kyrgyz north. The mosque, bazaar, and tea house culture feel more like Fergana Valley than Bishkek. How to Get There

From Jalal-Abad: shared taxi or marshrutka (1.5 hours, ~200-400 KGS). From Bishkek: domestic flight to Jalal-Abad (~$50-70) then ground transport, or shared taxi from Bishkek South Bus Station (8-10 hours, ~1,500 KGS). From Osh: shared taxi (4-5 hours via Jalal-Abad).

Where to Stay

CBT homestays ($15-25/night including meals) are the standard and best option — warm hospitality, home-cooked food, and cultural immersion. Book through CBT Jalal-Abad or directly with village hosts. No hotels in the village. Camping possible near the waterfalls with guide arrangement.
